United in Impact is a series of resources to help churches lead their congregations in celebrating how their giving reaches far beyond their church’s wall. By combining the resources of millions of United Methodists across the globe, we are able to move mountains.
United in Impact highlights the full range of ministries and programs made possible through the shared generosity of the United Methodist connection — including disaster relief, global missions, education, leadership development and peace with justice.
“United in Impact helps people see how ministry actually happens through the connection. When one church gives, its generosity doesn’t just benefit its own congregation. United in Impact highlights that every church—large or small, rural or urban—plays a vital role in transforming lives, celebrating the impact we already make together and strengthening that impact for the future,” said Linda Bruner, Team Lead for Promotion of Giving.
To help promote giving in the local church, United in Impact offers the following resources:
• A discussion guide
• Talking points
• An infographic explainer
• Downloadable logos and social media graphics
• A promotional video
• Stories of impact related to each of The UMC’s seven apportioned funds
“The campaign invites everyone—leaders, members, and local churches—to join in three ways. First, share the campaign resources in your congregation and circles. Second, encourage others to use the tools in worship, classes and meetings. And third, contribute stories from your community to help reflect the breadth and depth of our connection,” said Bruner.
Everyone is invited to share and celebrate the work of The United Methodist Church within their local congregations and ministries. Here are a few tips to get you started.
Sharing resources online
• Post UMC Giving stories of impact, the infographic and/or the promotional video on your personal and congregational social media channels.
• Encourage your congregants to follow The United Methodist Church on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest.
• Share giving resources and information in your church or conference newsletter.
• Post links to the United in Impact page and/or the UMC Giving homepage on your church’s website.
Inside your church
• Print and share copies of the discussion guide, talking points and infographic. Make printed copies available in your church’s reception or welcome area, or mail them to members.
• Share the United in Impact video during worship or display it on TV screens in the welcome area to help visitors and members understand the global impact of The UMC.
• Use the discussion guide in Sunday school classes or small groups to teach about the nature of connectional giving. Share stories of impact from each apportioned fund.
• Incorporate United in Impact resources into your church’s annual stewardship campaign. Use the infographic to explain how the vast majority of the church’s tithe gifts support the local congregation, with smaller percentages supporting conference and denominational ministries.
Within your conference
• Share or embed resources in conference newsletters, websites and social media channels.
• Play the video during annual conference sessions.
• Use the discussion guide and talking points in leadership trainings and other inter-conference gatherings.
United in Impact reminds us that when we give, we do so as part of a global community of faith—one that changes lives, supports vital ministries and builds a stronger church for generations to come. By sharing these tools and telling these stories, we continue the work God has entrusted to us and celebrate what we can accomplish when we serve as one.
