A new regional partnership developed in consultation with the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry will expand access to theological education for licensed local pastors. Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Methodist Theological School in Ohio have announced the Great Lakes Course of Study, a fully online program offered in English and Spanish beginning in fall 2026.
GBHEM, which oversees The United Methodist Church’s Course of Study curriculum, was consulted by both institutions on the initiative.
“This partnership reflects the best of our connectional tradition,” said Roland Fernandes, general secretary of GBHEM. “Garrett Seminary and MTSO, in consultation with GBHEM, are combining their strengths to create a stronger and more sustainable Course of Study program for students across the North Central Jurisdiction. Together, we are expanding access, strengthening support, and preparing local pastors to meet the needs of their congregations and communities.”
