Fun Advent ideas from UMC Pinterest boards

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! With extra emphasis on family, spiritual reflection and giving thanks, Advent offers fun opportunities to engage with your online community. Let’s check out specific ways you can spread cheer via Pinterest — one of the fastest growing social platforms of 2014.

Potluck prep

Punch up your potluck with a themed recipe. Pinterest knows no limit on creative dishes. Want to know how to make the cutest reindeer sandwiches (without harming Rudolph, of course) or edible lumps of coal that anyone would be happy to receive? Check out the Advent and Christmas board from Roswell United Methodist Church.

Busy elves

Whether planning a Sunday school activity for preschoolers or organizing a fun fellowship for adults, you can find games for all ages on Pinterest. Take a look at Chandler United Methodist Church’s Christian Crafts board. Teach children about the nativity and help them build their very own set from Popsicle sticks. Another great idea to get the entire church involved is the RACK – Random Acts of Christmas Kindness mission. Find this pin on the Seasons … Advent board from Park United Methodist Church. For each day of Advent, gather a group to perform a random act of kindness, such as taping quarters to vending machines or surprising community workers with special treats. Be creative.

New traditions

Inspire families to start new traditions. First United Methodist Church of Redondo Beach has an Advent Crafts board with a pin for 25 Christmas tradition ideas. These include Scripture readings for each night and writing a letter to Jesus as a gift for his birth.

Of course, this is a just a start. You can find a multitude of United Methodist churches who are pinning away. Hope you enjoy!
