Guided by Purpose: The Volunteer Board Behind the Center

The Center for LGBTQ+ United Methodist Heritage is governed by a volunteer board of diverse and passionate members from around the globe, united in their commitment to honoring the full identity and witness of LGBTQ+ United Methodists. As the Church embraces a more inclusive and hopeful future, the Center exists to intentionally collect, preserve, and share the stories of Queer individuals whose voices, ministries, and faith have long been marginalized. Through this work, the LGBTQ+ UMC Heritage Center Board is tasked with ensuring LGBTQ+ people and their legacy in the Church can move forward unapologetically to be seen, celebrated, and empowered in the fullness of who they are.

Stay tuned for more information on specific Board Members.

The center was created May 2, 2024 by the General Commission on Archives and History following the historic vote at the Postponed 202 General Conference Postponed 2020 that overturned the ban on "self-avowed and practicing homosexual" clergypersons. Read details here.
