Inclusion Matters Series : The UMC and Accessibility for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

The "Inclusion Matters" series explores the reality experienced by deaf and hard of hearing people within the United Methodist Church and offers concrete solutions for building a truly inclusive community. It sheds light on various challenges—spiritual isolation, communication barriers, physical obstacles—while affirming the theological and pastoral imperative of authentic inclusion. Through testimonials, technological tools, and educational reflections, each article offers ways to transform church life and enrich the diversity of the Body of Christ.

Why this series?

Many deaf and hard-of-hearing people experience church behind a wall of silence, longing to fully share their faith and gifts, but encountering obstacles that are sometimes invisible. The series shows how to move from intention to action: through sign language, assistive systems, training of ministry teams, and broader community engagement, inclusion becomes a blessing for the whole Church and society.
