A Moment for Mission

“What does the Lord require from you? To do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God.”
—Micah 6:8 (CEB)

Micah’s words are both simple and profound. God does not ask for grand gestures or complicated rituals. Instead, God calls us to live lives shaped by justice, kindness, and humility. These are not abstract ideas—they are practices learned over time, step by step, as we walk with God.

Today we recognize Scouting Sunday. This Sunday invites us to reflect on how young people are formed in these very values. Scouting programs emphasize character, service, responsibility, and respect—principles that echo Micah’s call to walk humbly and live faithfully. When churches open their doors to Scouting ministries, they help create spaces where children and youth learn how to care for others and serve the world God loves.

For those who may be newer to how The United Methodist Church serves, we are a connectional church. That means local congregations are not alone in ministry. We work together—sharing resources, supporting programs, and nurturing faith across communities. Through this shared covenant, ministries like Scouting are strengthened and sustained.

Every gift given through The United Methodist Church tells a story. This ministry tells stories of adults mentoring youth, of safe spaces where values are formed, and of young people learning what it means to live with integrity. Every story begins with the impact we make together when we choose to support ministry beyond ourselves.

Scouting Sunday reminds us that faith is not only something we believe—it is something we practice. Micah’s words guide us toward a life that reflects God’s love in tangible ways. Through connectional giving, our shared support helps ensure that children and youth have opportunities to grow in character, faith, and service.

When we give, we participate in God’s ongoing work of shaping lives. We invest in ministries that help young people learn how to walk God’s path—not perfectly, but faithfully. Together, as one church, we help guide the next generation toward lives marked by justice, kindness, and humility.

Reflection Question:

How is God inviting you to walk faithfully this week through the way you serve, give, or support others?

Children’s Message

Title: Better Together

Materials: A small basket and a few small puzzle pieces or building blocks and some coins

Good morning, friends! I’m so glad to see you today!

I brought something with me today. (Hold up shoes or backpack.) What are these for? Yes—for going places!

When we walk somewhere, we take one step at a time. And when we follow God, we also take steps—kind steps, caring steps, loving steps.

The Bible tells us today what God wants us to do. God wants us to be kind, fair, and walk with God. That means helping others, sharing, and doing what is right.

Today is Scouting Sunday. Scouting helps kids learn how to help others, work together, and do good things. Scouts learn how to be kind, take care of people, and serve their communities—just like God teaches us.

In The United Methodist Church, churches work together to help kids learn and grow. When we help together, we make safe places where children can learn how to follow God’s way.

(Place paper footprints in the basket.) Each footprint reminds us that when we help and share, we take steps together. No one walks alone.

This week let’s remember: God walks with us, and we can walk God’s way every day.

Prayer: Dear God,

Thank you for walking with us. Help us be kind and fair. Help us help others. Teach us to walk your way. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

Faithful God, you show us what is good and invite us to walk humbly with you. As we give today, bless these gifts and use them to support ministries that form character, teach service, and nurture faith. Through our connectional giving, may lives be shaped by justice, kindness, and love. Help our shared generosity reflect our commitment to follow you—together, as one church. Amen.

Offertory Prayer From Discipleship Ministries

God of Justice and Mercy, you do not ask for thousands of offerings or rivers of oil, only that we live with love, humility, and a hunger for what is right. Accept these gifts we bring—not as bargaining chips, but as signs of our desire to follow you. Use them and us to pour out kindness where the world is aching, to walk alongside the weary, and to bring your healing presence into troubled places. May our giving be our “yes” to your call, our response to your grace, and our witness to your hope. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
