Dear ___________________,
Peace with Justice Sunday is _______ weeks away—May 30, 2021.
“Peace with Justice is a faithful expression of shalom in the Bible. It calls the church to strengthen its capacity to advocate publicly in communities and nations throughout the world. It aims to make shalom visible and active in people’s lives and communities by setting people free from bondage.” —2016 Book of Resolutions, #6139
In 2017 The General Board of Church and Society (GBCS) gave a Peace with Justice grant of $5,000 to Allendale UMC of St. Petersburg, Florida, for a project focused on shutting down the school-to-prison pipeline. The P.I.N.K. Girls project encouraged girls to value their gifts and talent and to use them. The girls were also taught to speak truth to power and to restore community through effective nonviolent communication. This is an example of the incredible work that your members accomplish when your congregation celebrates and donates to the Peace with Justice Sunday offering. Half of the offering stays in your annual conference to support local peace-building efforts and the other half is shared with the General Board of Church and Society for local churches and global peace with justice work.
Peace with Justice Sunday Sunday is almost here. We encourage you to check in with your worship leaders about the progress of your celebration. Download the resources below and use them in your celebration.
Pastor Kit resources are available in French, Spanish, and Korean, and include pew cards, sermon starter, bulletin insert, offering talk, liturgy, poster and social graphics.
Thank you for leading your congregation to demonstrate the social principles of The United Methodist Church through your Peace with Justice celebration. Your gifts change many lives.
Your gifts on Peace with Justice Sunday enable The United Methodist Church to have a voice in advocating for peace with justice through a broad spectrum of global programs. Your gifts enable United Methodists to advocate for peace with justice in the annual conference and through the General Board of Church and Society. Give generously on Peace with Justice Sunday.
