Recently the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry authorized a study to identify critical performance measures for churches/congregations in the 21st Century.
A survey sent out to clergy, laity, bishops, general agencies, college and university presidents and seminarians revealed five critical measures a church should monitor as it assesses its own performance and long-term sustainability: membership, diversity, engagement, retention and finances.
