Rooted Methodism

"Rooted Methodism" is a video series that takes a deep dive into the story of Methodism in America, focusing on how various topics and groups, including women, race, medicine, education, youth shaped and reshaped the church's life and witness.

Welcome to "Rooted Methodism: Deeper Dives into our History." In this seven-part video series, we look at how Methodism has intersected - and continues to intersect - with American culture from its colonial beginnings to our current denomination.

We examine how various groups and topics have shaped and reshaped the church's life and witness in the world, including race, women, education, medicine, sexuality, voting, and youth.

Rooted Methodism: Race, Culture and American Methodism

In this new video series from the General Commission on Archives and History, we invite you to take a deep dive into into the story of Methodism in America, focusing on how various topics and groups, including women, race, medicine, education, youth shaped and reshaped the church's life and witness. In the first of the seven-part series, we take a lake a look at how Methodism's story is deeply tied to America's own struggles with race and justice, from the earliest gatherings, like Philip Embury's class meetings in New York City, to 20th century segregation that included the denomination's Central Jurisdiction.
